Women using smart home techology

How IoT devices connect to each other matters. That’s why Telink supports the revolutionary Matter standard to deliver seamless multi-ecosystem interoperability.

The Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA) launched Matter 1.0 in October 2022 to universalize and simplify the Internet of Things (IoT) experience. Designed to make the IoT and smart home experience more interoperable, reliable, and secure, Matter is an application layer standard built on mature underlying technologies including Thread, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth® LE.

Recently, Telink worked with HooRii to help them deploy the Matter over Thread solution based on TLSR9218 SoC in their smart plug product, helping it pass lab tests and acquire final certification. This will enable HooRii to deliver consumers a cutting-edge smart home product designed for interoperability.

Passing the Matter certification ensures that the device complies with the standard specifications and can connect to other Matter devices and ecosystems successfully. Yet, there is still a final gap between establishing basic connections and delivering the best user experience in the field, due to the fact that each smart home ecosystem has unique features.

The good news is that by working closely with ecosystem players like Google, Apple, and Amazon, Telink removes these worries for developers and offers them a solution with out-of-the-box compatibility.

Becoming a Matter-Supported Platform of Google Home Ecosystem

How Telink's SoC now supports the Matter protocol

Google’s Home Developer program allows device manufacturers to connect their smart home devices with the Google Home ecosystem. Google has been expanding the Smart Home Actions local fulfillment path, with an ability to add Matter-enabled devices for setup using the Google Home app (GHA) on Android, and control them using Google Assistant, GHA, or smart displays like the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen).

This allows developers to quickly build and integrate Matter-enabled devices in the Google Home ecosystem based on a Matter-supported platform, which is essentially a development board and SDK of a silicon vendor that can serve as a Matter-enabled device for end-to-end verification.

Recently, Telink’s TLSR9 SoC and Matter SDK passed the compatibility evaluation by Google and became a Matter-supported platform, which essentially means that developers can take a Telink B91 development kit and the corresponding Matter SDK to build a supported Matter device that will seamlessly melt into the Google Home ecosystem without any additional effort.

All main features related to Matter-enabled devices of the ecosystem are supported, including OTA firmware updates and multi-fabric control. Moreover, developers will also get access to sample codes based on the TLSR9 SoC platform to support various Matter-enabled devices in the Google Home ecosystem. These device types include color temperature lights, contact sensors, dimmable lights, door locks, and thermostats, to name just a few. Besides, any future update on the TLSR9 SoC platform will get verified by Google to ensure continuous compatibility and vice versa.

TLSR9 SoC Platform Operates in Google Home Ecosystem

Using our B91 development kit, a Google Pixel 6 smartphone, the Google Nest Hub, and an IPv6 wireless router, we’ll demonstrate how a Matter-enabled light bulb powered by Telink’s TLSR9 SoC operates seamlessly in the Google Home ecosystem. Check out our demonstration video for a more in-depth look.

Ensuring Cross-Platform Compatibility with Telink

As a provider of Google’s Matter-supported platform, Telink offers a straightforward and cost-effective solution to facilitate complicated interactions among Matter-enabled devices in the Google Home ecosystem — but our work doesn’t stop there. We’re teaming up with other smart home ecosystem players to ensure cross-platform compatibility of our Matter solution, to help make interoperability a default feature in all smart environments.

With our TLSR9 SoC, developers can create various types of smart devices capable of engaging with multiple communication protocols and ecosystem platforms. Users no longer have to struggle with deciding which smart product can work for their ecosystem. By choosing Telink, manufacturers are investing in future-proof technology made to redefine how convenience and connectivity intersect in the world of IoT.
