Ohsung Electronics Unveils New Google TV RCU Reference Designs, Developed with Telink Semiconductor

March 3, 2021

Google TV RCUs

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA, MARCH 3, 2021 — South Korea-based Ohsung Electronics recently released a new set of Google TV™ remote control reference designs that it developed with Telink Semiconductor.

The release of the designs marks an important step in the evolution of Android TV™ OS. Back in September, Google introduced the new Google TV experience. Since this announcement, Ohsung and Telink have collaborated with Google on the new Google TV reference designs for remote controls.

The remote controls’ hardware design uses Telink’s Bluetooth® Low Energy solution as its primary control chip, and the remotes’ jointly developed firmware has been pre-certified by Google TV. Telink offers both PCB design schematic and layout, along with a function reference SDK and firmware, which can be found on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). The set of reference designs has also secured RF certification in numerous countries around the world, ensuring the designs’ widespread usability and giving original equipment manufacturers the ability to quickly go to market with the latest products.

To that end, Ohsung has used the reference designs to provide specifications for two remotes: the G10 and G20. The G10 series includes 22 keys, the G20 series includes 38 keys, and both feature a Telink TLSR8271 chipset and approved color contrasts. Ohsung’s reference layout features a dedicated shortcut button for the Google TV Watchlist and buttons for Google Assistant, live TV, YouTube, and Netflix.

This exciting collaboration is just the latest example of Telink’s long-standing commitment to the development of cutting-edge remote controls. Since our founding, we have been heavily involved in the smart remote control market, providing voice-enabled remote control solutions for top-of-the-line smart TV, set-top box, and OTT box manufacturers around the world.

Over the years, Telink has developed in-depth chip customizations for smart remote control applications, enabling us to deliver exceptional radio frequency performance and connection stability, ultra-low standby power consumption, noise suppression for voice collection and transmission, seamless multiple wireless standard selection, and unbeatable cost-effectiveness.

Companies and manufacturers are encouraged to contact us to learn more about our industry-leading remote control solutions and discuss project support.
